Hamburg Weather Mast
In the Hamburg Billwerder district, the Meteorological Institute maintains facilities for monitoring and researching the atmospheric boundary layer, the Weather Mast. Once every second it measures criteria like air temperature, humidity, wind speed and wind direction at different altitudes, then transfers the data to the ten-kilometer-distant Geomatikum building at regular intervals by DSL. This is supplemented by additional readings from the adjacent 12-meter girder mast and a ground-level station.
