Communication Skills for International Academic Practice

This workshop will introduce postdocs to academic structures and practices in an international context, mainly oriented around Anglophone standards. We will discuss and explore differences regarding (for example) conferences and email etiquette in order to practice turns of phrase that will help us to facilitate informal communication across different Englishes, academic systems, and fields of study. Participants will also have the chance to prepare a short presentation for peer evaluation over the course of the day. The focus will be on Spoken English, with a special emphasis on register for ease of communication.
